Yo presenting our speech prize winners - 1st Maggie, 2nd Sylvia, 3rd Charlie

Last week our Year 3-8 children performed their speeches. We were so proud of them all. It is wonderful to see how much their confidence has grown since last year. Public speaking isn’t always easy and I love how every one of them gave it a go and tried their best.

This is our last newsletter of the term, so have a wonderful holiday and thank you so much for all of your support this term. Enjoy making memories in the holidays.

Kiwisport Day - Thursday 19th September
Here are the transport details for our kiwisport day at Scargill Domain. I will put a message on Facebook before school if this is cancelled.

Mainpower
We are a finalist in the 2019 MainPower Community Fund! We could receive a share of the $30,000 fund. We really need you to vote for us. As a small school it would be awesome if you could share this around with your family and friends so we can get as many people as we can to vote. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/CommunityFundVote2019

Term 4 Raffle
Please can you send in your raffle prize by the end of term 3. We ask for one per family, of a value of at least $10.

Farmlands
Farmlands are having a birthday celebration on Friday 11th October and they have asked us if we would like to join them to sell raffles at their shop between 10-2pm. I am away that day so I’m not able to be there, but please let me know if your child would like to be a part of this. If we have enough they could do one hour shifts. They are going to donate some prizes to our raffle as well.

Working bee
Thanks so much for the support of our working bee. Please let me know when you want to do the job, so I can make sure we have everything ready for you.

Dental Van
A reminder that the dental van will be at school this Friday, 20th September.

Linc ed
All Year 3-8 speeches and kapahaka performance are now on Linc ed. You can login like you did with reports to see it, or click on the link from the email that comes to you from Linc ed. I will add Paemoana’s in week 10.

Celebration of Learning
As our children have just shared their learning with you at our 3 way learning conferences and speeches, we have decided not to have our celebration of learning on Friday. We will give out extra certificates at our next assembly in term 4.

Kia ora whānau.

How exciting to reach spring! It’s such a lovely time of year seeing the lambs frolicking in the paddocks and the blossom and daffodils out in bloom. From a school point of view, it’s been a great winter for us. I can count on one hand the amount of days we have had to have the children playing inside at lunchtime, which makes life a lot easier when teaching in the afternoon.

The teachers and I had a very productive and inspiring day on Friday at Rangiora New Life School with our colleagues from our Kahui Ako (Community of Learners). It was great to be able to collaborate and learn alongside other small schools and rural area schools. We hope you enjoyed your day off. I saw some gorgeous photos of skiing at Porter Heights!

Kia ora whānau

Last week the Year 5-8 students were supposed to be in Arthurs Pass on camp. As you may already know, we only made it to Darfield and had to turn back as the tracks and roads were closed. Miss Hanna and I were so impressed with our students. The way they reacted, listened to instructions and their understanding of the situation and how we had to change our plans quickly. Unfortunately, this is life and there are times where things don’t go to plan. So even though it was a disappointment not to go, we were really impressed with how understanding our students were and we all loved our city day out on Thursday. A great life lesson and more proof about just how amazing our Omihi whānau is.

You may have seen this post on Facebook recently about attendance. Please remember that every day at school does count. We have a goal of 90% attendance for our students and if anyone drops below 80% we send a letter home each term.

Please let us know if you haven’t received them.
